Soil to Plate
.
We now have the allotments and school courtyard planted up with herbs and vegetables.
Despite the hot summer we have been able to harvest potatoes, carrots, tomatoes and herbs.
This "soil to plate" initiative has been really successful and the children in years 5 and 6 have enjoyed digging up and picking the vegetables and using the produce in their Food and Nutrition lessons.
Just this simple addition to our curriculum teaches pupils so much about: creation, care, food miles and reducing the reliance on fossil fuels, use of plastics, irregular food shapes, healthy diet and nutrition, and sustainability. Simple and yet so effective!
