Vision and Values
The St. Michael's Middle School vision is: 'With the help of God, we are flourishing together in faith, courage and love.' Underpinned by our core values of aspiration, resilience, respect and kindness, our aim is to create an environment where every child feels secure, valued and empowered to reach their full potential.
Historically, the school has consistently articulated a strong Christian vision which serves as the 'golden thread' running through all aspects of school life. Our new vision, inspired by 1 Corinthians 16: 13-14, is explicitly rooted in Christian theology.
- 'With the help of God' reflects our foundational reliance on God's grace and presence, acknowledging that true flourishing is not achieved in isolation, but through divine support (Philippians 4:13).
- 'Flourishing together' aligns directly with Jesus' promise of 'life in all its fullness' (John 10:10) and Paul's image of the Church as one body (1 Corinthians 12), emphasising that individual growth happens within a supportive, equitable community.
- 'Faith, courage and love' draws directly from 1 Corinthians 13:13 ("faith. hope and love") and Joshua 1:9 ("Be strong and courageous"). It inspires our core values: aspiration (faith in God and our potential), resilience (courage in the face of adversity), and respect and kindness (living out Christian love/agape).
We are committed to providing a Christian community where the widest range of individual characters can flourish together in faith and love. We encourage all of our pupils to live out our vision by demonstrating our four core values in their work and conduct.

We aim to be the best we can be by doing things to the best of our ability. |

We keep going when times are tough, we learn from our mistakes and we bounce back. We meet the challenge together when things are hard, supported by God and their school community. |

We treat each other and the environment with care because we value them. We value that we are all different, unique individuals made in God's image. |

We actively choose to do and say things to build others up. We want to be responsible, compassionate members of society, both in school and beyond. If you have to be anything, be kind. |
The school undertook a comprehensive review of its vision and values in the academic year 2025/2026. We did this as we felt that our old vision and values were not as reflective of the way the school works as we wanted them to be. We consulted with all stakeholders, including pupils, parents, staff and the local community. The new school vision and values came into use at the start of the academic year 2026/2027.
