The Biblical Hall Mural

The huge Biblical-themed mural is the focal point of the school hall and is the backdrop to every collective worship. The mural was created by our art technician at the time, Bridie Cheeseman, and shows designs from many of the different stories from the Bible that we use as a focus for our collective worship.

Below are some of the different stories from the Bible that are represented in the mural.

The Story of Zacchaeus the Tax Collector

You have to look quite closely to find the image of Zacchaeus hiding in the tree, behind the left-hand speaker. The story tells how, after meeting with Jesus, he changed his ways and righted the things he had done to others. We use this story in collective worship to talk about being able to change and not holding on to things people might have done to you in the past.

The Story of Simon Peter

In this story, Jesus was preaching from a boat belonging to Simon Peter. He had been fishing all day but caught very little. Jesus suggested to Simon Peter that he should go to deeper waters to fish. Simon agreed and caught more fish than the nets could hold. Jesus asked Simon Peter to follow him and he agreed. We use this story to show the importance of trusting in and following Jesus.

The Story of Moses

This picture shows God speaking directly to Moses in the desert. God appeared to him in the form of a burning bush. He told Moses to return to Egypt to lead his people, the Israelites, out of slavery and freedom. We use this story in collective worship to talk about being a leader and trusting in God's plan for us all.

The Story of The Good Samaritan

A Jewish man was attacked as he travelled between two cities and was left for dead. Two other people passed him by but did not stop and offer any help. A Samaritan, a complete stranger, stops to help the Jewish man. He tends to his wounds, takes him to an Inn and pays for his care. We use this story in collective worship to show the importance of kindness and in helping others, regardless of who they are and their background.

The Story of Joseph

The story of Joseph and his amazing coloured coat is covered in Year 6 RE. Joseph was thrown into a pit by his brothers, who were jealous of Joseph being the favourite son of his father, Jacob. In collective worship, we used the story to talk about resilience and forgiveness.

St. Michael

The mural features an image of St. Michael, shown as a warrior. He appears in many different parts of the Bible and is known for being a defender of humanity against evil and temptation.

The Story of David and Goliath

The story of David and Goliath talks about how you can overcome things that seem impossible at first by doing things a different way. We use this story in collective worship to talk about the importance of having faith in yourself and your abilities.

The Story of Moses

Moses is shown twice on the mural. Here, he is a baby that has been placed in a basket and floated down the River Nile to avoid being killed by the Pharaoh. Pupils study this story in Year 6, and we look at the life of Moses and the ten commandments in collective worship.

Jonah and the Whale

In this story, Jonah is given an instruction from God to go to a town called Ninevah and warn them of their wickedness. He does not want to do this and so runs away on a ship. The ship is hit by a huge storm and the sailors throw Johan overboard as they think that he is the reason the storm was happening. Eventually, he is swallowed by a whale. He spends three days inside the whale and asks for God's forgiveness and is eventually released. He goes to Ninevah and completes the task God set him. We use this story in collective worship to talk about facing up to your responsibilities, even when it is something you might not want to do.

If you look carefully, you can also see lots of pairs of animals who are all on their way to find Noah's ark.
