KEY STAGE 3 STUDENTS AT ST MICHAEL'S MIDDLE SCHOOL HAVE THEIR VOTE!

KEY STAGE 3 STUDENTS AT ST MICHAEL'S MIDDLE SCHOOL HAVE THEIR VOTE!

All Year 7 & 8 pupils recently took part in an Electoral ballot to support their work in PSHE in Year 8 on Parliament and Democracy.  All KS3 children had an opportunity to vote for Members of the Youth Parliament who will represent all young people in Dorset followed by a separate vote for the Youth Parliament - 'Make Your Mark' campaign which focuses on which topic young people care most about.

They began the session by looking at the Human Rights Act, 1998, Article 10 -  'Everyone has the right to freedom of expression'.
This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas.  Students looked at Malala Yousafzai's story to understand that sadly there are still violations of Human Rights around the world today.
After listening to each candidate's Youth Parliament Campaign Video they each  made their vote on official ballot papers and posted them into the ballot box ready to be sent away to be counted.  They then did the same but for the Youth Parliament - 'Make Your Mark' campaign, voting for which topic they cared most about.
We felt it was important for all students to know they have a voice, are being heard and can make a difference about their futures.
