Eco Club News

Eco Club have enjoyed tremendous success promoting environmental awareness and recycling this year at St Michael’s!

Our greatest achievement was The Dorset County’s, “Is Plastic Fantastic?” competition, which involved the team devising and then carrying out several initiatives.

We have promoted recycling in our school and reached out to our community.

We held a class- based competition focusing on how many plastic bottles we could bring in. We also asked the pupils to be creative and make something out of plastic. We have joined forces with ‘Wimborne Win on Waste’ to expand the range and volume of items we recycle in school and at home.  For our community project the Eco group ran a stall at St James`s School fayre helping younger children to make fun items out of recycled plastic. We also spoke to St Michael`s Church community  about what we are doing and how they could participate.
One of our members even received a Blue Peter badge for her efforts!   Our efforts throughout the year resulted in our Eco Club winning the County competition and we were presented with a trophy together with £1000 to spend encouraging more recycling in our School!

The Eco Club members have decided to use the money to buy multi-coloured picnic tables made from recycled plastic for the playground together with recycling bins to collect plastic bottles and food waste. See photos below

On the 28th September we also received the runners up trophy for Ideas2action for our efforts with recycling!
